Home Makeover for Renters: The Living Room

Next up on our Home Makeover for Renters series is the living room. The living room is probably the room we spend the most time in. This means we really wanted to give it a nice look and feel so we could enjoy the time spent there. And we wanted to do so without spending too much money.

The first thing we need to do is fix up some cracks in the walls. This happens sometimes in older homes. Fortunately, Max is a pro when it comes to fixer-upper projects at home so the walls will be looking brand new in no time! Once the walls are in good shape we will start painting. The current colour of the living room (and surrounding areas) is probably my least favourite colour. It looks like an off-white with a hint of yellow. And I am not a fan of yellow.

After we do the walls, we’ll move onto some decluttering to minimize the amount of furniture and stuff have to keep the room tidy. There isn’t much space to move around the furniture, but we will do our best to change the layout too. And we are quite fortunate because my brother recently bought a new couch and a new carpet! We’ll show you some before and after photos of that as well, because wow, what a difference!

We’ll also be sharing with you a makeover we’re doing in the living room closet – this is the project I am most excited about! Our current closet situation is not practical, nor very nice to look at. But I already have a plan and I’ll share lots of photos with you through the entire process.

Lastly, we’ll focus on the decor of the living room and how to make it simple yet beautiful. We don’t plan on spending much money on decor for the living room since we won’t be able to use it in the Tiny House. But if you have any suggestions on simple or minimalist decor, please leave us a comment.
